CURRICULUM

At St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, we are committed to the development of the whole person, and recognise the uniqueness of each student on their learning journey.

We provide comprehensive programs which deliver the Australian Curriculum through engaging and motivating experiences; with an aim to develop students who are successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and who are active and informed citizens.

We are fortunate with our extensive grounds, quality facilities and staff of genuine commitment who, in building relationships of trust and conviction, create the space for students to question, initiate and lead.

At St John’s, we value a full school life that sets the same expectations when pursuing academic goals, pulling on a sporting uniform, singing in a choir, performing at assembly, participating in chess and robotic tournaments or heading off to camp.

We encourage our students to pursue a life-long spirit. You will find it in our students, our staff, our sporting teams, our achievements our approach to learning and our friendships.

We value each student’s time with us.

It is a journey based on Christian values;

one full of energy and diversity;

one that unearths interests and talents;

and one, we believe, leaves students

in great shape for the next leg

in a challenging, exciting world.

SPIRITUALLY

At St John’s, we believe in putting into practice what is taught in our classrooms. Our aim is that our Catholic beliefs and values permeate everything we do and say and that our students will put these into practice throughout their lives to influence their behaviours and decisions. Everyone at St John’s strives to make Jesus real in our own lives and the lives of others through our words and actions. The Spirit of Jesus is evident in our welcoming and friendly relationships between all within our school community and our genuine care and concern for all God’s gifts; self, others, flora and fauna and our environment, which is modelled in practical ways for lifelong practice.

ACADEMICALLY

Australian Curriculum Learning Areas offered at St John’s include Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences), The Arts, Health and Physical Education, Technology and Japanese. Staff provide teaching and learning programs that are inquiry-based, innovative and support intellectual rigour, collaboration and creativity. CULTURALLY

At St John's, students are provided with a range of opportunities across The Arts. We believe that it is crucial to develop students' creative and expressive capabilities in addition to their logical and analytical skills. To support learning in The Arts, St John's offers opportunities to perform at the Eisteddfod, specialist instrumental and string classes, bands and choirs, a St John’s Got Talent competition, a dedicated Music/Drama Room and a specialised Visual Arts program for all students, including hosting artists and musicians, and providing opportunities to be involved in music workshops and musicals.

The focus of our physical education program is to make every effort to ensure that physical activity is a worthwhile and enjoyable experience for all students.
